About The Signature Sailings Blog
The Signature Sailings Blog is a cruise travel blog created to help travelers understand their options before planning a cruise. With so many cruise lines, ship styles, cabin types, and packages available today, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or unsure about what truly fits your travel style and expectations.
This blog exists to explain cruising in a clear, personal, and practical way — sharing insights that a standard agency website simply can’t. Its purpose is to help travelers learn, ask better questions, and feel confident before booking.
At its core, The Signature Sailings Blog is built on education and trust. There are no sales pitches, no pressure, and no generic advice — just thoughtful guidance designed to help travelers make informed decisions.
By the time readers finish an article here, the goal is simple: to feel confident, calm, inspired, relieved, and curious about their next cruise experience.

About the Author
The Signature Sailings Blog is written by Phil Thompson, owner of Accessible Cruise and Travel – Dream Vacations.
Phil was raised in a military family and spent more than 20 years serving in the military. Throughout his life, he has traveled extensively — visiting over 50 countries as a tourist and spending significant time across Europe, Japan, and Korea. He has taken more than 30 cruises, including river cruises, on nearly every contemporary and premium cruise line.
Since 2017, Phil has helped travelers plan cruises and vacations of all types, including families, retirees, first-time cruisers, groups, and travelers with mobility or accessibility needs. His experience has taught him not just what questions to ask, but when and why those questions matter.
He also understands something many travelers don’t realize until it’s too late:
more expensive doesn’t always mean better. A balcony cabin isn’t always the right choice. Drink packages aren’t always a value. And the best option on paper isn’t always the best option for a specific traveler.
Phil believes great travel planning starts with listening. Rather than focusing on volume or quick bookings, his approach centers on understanding what travelers want from their experience and helping them choose options that feel right for their pace, interests, and needs.
Advocacy, Not Transactions
One of the most important roles of a travel advisor is advocacy.
During periods of disruption — such as widespread cruise cancellations — many travelers found themselves navigating confusing policies and inconsistent answers from cruise lines. Phil’s clients had someone who knew them, understood their situation, and was willing to put in the work to protect their interests.
That same approach applies to everyday planning. Phil believes in honest advice, long-term relationships, and accountability. If a mistake is made, it’s owned — even if that means absorbing the cost personally. A client should never pay more because of an advisor’s error.
What “Signature Sailings” Means
“Signature Sailings” represents a philosophy of travel planning:
-
Quality over volume
-
Thoughtful planning over quick decisions
-
Personalized experiences over cookie-cutter trips
Cruise ships are more than transportation — they are resorts at sea that should match a traveler’s personality, pace, and expectations. A quiet, relaxing getaway requires a very different approach than a high-energy family cruise. Understanding those differences is where meaningful cruise planning begins.
